Do I really have to open two accounts and paste two keys?
Yes, and it takes about two minutes once. Detto asks for a Groq key for speech-to-text and an Ollama key for the AI cleanup. Both have free tiers that cover everyday dictation, and the first-run screen gives you a direct link, a paste field, and a Verify button that tells you immediately whether the key works.
The reason is the price. Every product on this page that costs nothing up front is paying an AI provider for you and recovering it monthly. Detto does not sit in the middle: your key, your account, your usage. That is why it costs €22 once instead of a subscription — and it is also why your audio goes from your computer straight to the provider you chose, never through a server of ours.
If you would rather not manage a key at all, that is a real preference and one of the subscriptions above will suit you better. It is a trade, not a trick.
Where the other one is the better choice
If you work on a Mac, an iPhone or an Android device, Detto is not an option: it exists only for Windows. Wispr Flow covers those platforms and Detto does not, and no amount of writing changes that. If you dictate a few hundred words a week, its free tier may be all you need — and paying nothing beats paying €22.

Questions people actually ask
Does Detto work offline?
No. Speech-to-text runs on the provider whose key you supply, so it needs a connection. What stays offline is your data at rest: dictionary, snippets, notes and history never leave your computer.
What happens if Groq changes its free tier?
Your licence is perpetual and does not depend on any provider. Detto supports more than one speech-to-text service, and if the AI cleanup provider is unreachable it falls back to rule-based cleanup. You can switch provider at no extra cost to us.
How many languages can I dictate in?
One hundred, from English and Chinese to Bashkir and Cantonese. The interface itself is available in six.
Which Windows versions are supported?
Windows 10 and Windows 11. There is no macOS version, and that is a deliberate limitation rather than a roadmap item we are hiding.
Can I move the licence to a new computer?
Yes. Two devices at a time, and you can free a slot from your account page whenever you want.
